Only a stone’s throw away from the historical market town that is Kidderminster, lies the West Midlands Safari and Leisure Park. West Midlands Safari Park is home to some of the world’s most exotic animals (165 animals, to be exact) and makes for a wonderful day out for families and groups of friends. For those who have children, visiting West Midlands Safari Park can be a welcome day out as you drive around the safari and witness beautiful creatures such as giraffes, lions, elephants, rhinos, tigers and so much more. Labelled as an ‘award-winning day out for families,’ West Midlands Safari and Leisure Park can be a great escape for families during the summer holidays and when the weather is warmer.
Getting to West Midlands Safari Park
As the West Midlands Safari Park is predominantly a drive-thru experience, you will want to locate and secure a car. Once you have done so, head to Bewdley (just outside of Kidderminster) and follow the signs. It is recommended that you book your tickets in advance so that you can escape the queues and make the risk of not getting into the safari park redundant. Once you have arrived, simply follow the instructions for the drive-thru experience, and once this has been completed, explore the rest of the safari park on foot.
For parents who need to plan how long exploring the safari park will take, driving through the animal enclosure usually takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes (if the park is not busy). If you are looking for a less chaotic experience, you will want to avoid the safari park around its busier times which is between 11:30am and 2:30pm. As you may expect, the West Midlands Safari Park can become exceptionally busy during the school holidays.
What Animals Can You See?
The West Midlands Safari Park is separated into segments so that you can experience a selection of animals as they would be in their natural habitat. What this means is that you can enter what is named the ‘African Plains’ and gaze upon an elegant, giraffe or spot a stripy zebra in the distance. There is an abundance of animals for you to see and learn about during the drive-thru experience, allowing you to get an up-close experience with such incredible animals.
When driving through the safari park, you will enter the following areas:
- African Plains (Congo buffalo, giraffes, zebras, antelope)
- Wild Asia (rhino, blackbuck, deer)
- Carnivores (tigers, cheetah, African lion)
- The Borderlands (camels)
