The Hot Tub Cinema

There are drive through theatres, open air cinemas and picture houses that take you back to a bygone era. But this summer you could experience something totally different in the form of the Hot Tub Cinema. What could be better than relaxing in a bubbling hot tub watching an all time classic on the big screen? Turn a night at the cinema into a memorable experience of luxury and decadence that you will never forget. You could hire out a whole tub for you and your friends, or buy a ticket for yourself and your partner and share a tub with strangers, who by the end of the evening will be considered friends.

Fun in the Tub

If you are worried about the water quality, don’t be. As before every event the tubs are cleaned and filled with fresh water, even between shows. In the summer you can enjoy the show and the tubs in the open air, and then when the weather turns cooler the whole event is taken inside away from the unpredictability of the British weather. The events take place across the roof tops of London so aside from the screening you will have access to some wonderful cityscapes. 2013 marks the first birthday of the Hot Tub Cinema which began life as a unique and original private party consisting of a single hot tub, a group of friends and a cinema screen. The first public access Hot Tub Cinema took place in the summer of 2012 to great acclaim, and this year the events are even bigger. Now there are a total of twenty tubs, two theatre screens and a state of the art sound system for you to enjoy as you relax in the tub.

Finding Events

The best way to stay in touch with upcoming events is to follow their Twitter feeds, like their Facebook page or simply add yourself to their mailing list. The Hot Tub Cinema has no permanent venue and is very much a pop up style event. Events are held all year round both nationally and internationally in both indoor and outdoor venues. Tickets for the events are available on their website www.hottubcinema.com but be warned, they sell out very quickly. Ticket prices can vary as they are based upon the cost of the venue where the event is being held. The ticket price for your event includes access to the hot tubs of course, the film and the post screening entertainment.

Attending an Event

The events are fully licensed and as such there is a strict over 18 policy in place. If you are wondering what to take to an event you can keep it simple with a swimming costume, towel and flip flips for the trips to the bathroom, as well as money for food and drinks. But you could also think about taking a waterproof camera and a bag for your wet clothes from the trip home. The water in the tubs is heated to 40oc so even if the weather turns chilly you will remain nice and warm in the tub.
