London’s Christmas Markets

There are a number of seasonal and special events that take place in the city throughout the year that attract visitors in their thousands, but there are none more popular than the annual Christmas markets that start appearing from November and across the festive period each year before coming to a close in January. Many of the markets also involve other attractions running alongside which makes them all the more enjoyable. Listed below are just a few that you can visit this winter, whether you are looking to pick up some unique gifts for friends and family or treat your taste buds to some traditional Christmas fayre, you will find a market, fair or event that fits the bill.

The Natural History Museum Ice Rink and Market

This is billed as one of the must see events of the winter. Between the 31st October and 5th January 2014 you will find an ice rink in place outside of the Natural History Museum. Surrounding the ice rink will be a number of market stalls selling festive food, drinks and gifts for all the family. Tickets for the event (including the skating) cost £11.50.

Chelsea Physic Garden Christmas Fair

Chelsea Physic Garden is a popular attraction at any time of the year, but on November 30th and December 1st the oldest botanic garden in London will play host to a fabulous Christmas market, Chelsea style with exclusively selected and unique items to purchase. Tickets/entry to the event costs £5.00.

Christmas Market at the Southbank Centre

Between the 16th November and 24th December when you pay a visit to the Southbank Centre you will find eighty different market stalls in the form of traditional wooden chalets selling everything from handmade gifts to festive food and drink. Entry to the event is free.

Winter Festival – Spitalfields

From the 6th – 17th December Spitalfields Market will be awash with music to suit all ages and tastes as the Christmas Music Festival takes place. So enjoy the music as you shop on the regular and Christmas themed market stalls.

Belgravia Christmas Sunday – Pimlico Roan & Elizabeth Street

This market takes place on December 1st in the beautiful regency setting of these iconic market streets. The markets here are famous for their diversity and the Christmas market offers everything you expect with a little of magic of the season thrown in.

The Boutique Market – Christmas at Kew

Between 28th November and 4th January 2014 the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew will be home to a fabulous Christmas Market. Not only will you be able to pick up some unique gifts for family and friends there will be plenty of stalls to keep even the most ardent foodie satisfied.

The Southbank Centre – Christmas Chocolate Festival

Enter a chocoholic’s paradise between the 13th and 15th December. If you dream in chocolate this is the Christmas fair for you. Whether you are shopping for yourself or looking for sweet treats for your friends and family, there will be more than you bargained for at this chocolate lover’s haven.
