Manchester City Breaks - Eating on a Budget

Cheap Eats in Manchester

Manchester is a truly superb city to visit, and is certainly worth considering when looking for weekend breaks in England. The city is truly unique, vibrant, very inviting and is even regarded by many as the U.K`s true capital. With such a claim, you`d expect prices to follow suit, however with the shear amount of restaurants available, eating out isn`t as expensive as you may think. It`s just a case of knowing where to look, so here`s a collection of some of the cheap, yet high quality places to dine in Manchester, brought to you by travelsupermarket.com.

This `n` That

This `n` That is a tiny modest Indian cafe that`s hidden down Soap Street, luckily it was discovered by curry fans some years ago and has ever since been impressing its customers with its high quality cuisine and low prices for over two decades.

The cafe specialises in classic curries, from lamb karai to the korma all for a great price. This n That also cook the famous rice and three, three meats and your choice of rice for less than a fiver. And if all three meats aren`t to your liking then you can mix and match, for example you can order rice, two meats and one vegetable for £4.

When it comes to the decor, don`t expect anything fancy, it`s very simple but does the job. In fact the only problem with this humble Indian cafˇ, is trying to find it in the first place, but for those who are interested, you can find it at Soap Street off Thomas Street, Northern Quarter, M4 1EX. The cafˇ is more for people looking for a great lunch and as such is open Monday to Friday 11:30 to 16:30 and Saturday 11:30 to 16:00.

Shlurp!

Here you can enjoy a variety of different soups, stews and even great homemade sandwiches and salads for £3.75 or less!

Shlurp`s menu is ever changing to suit the season, however their smoked haddock chowder and suet crust topped steak and kidney stew is one of their highly recommended classics that`s available all year round.

The kitchen is unit 2 on Brazennose House East and should be thought of as mainly takeaway as there is very limited seating. Shlurp! is open Monday to Friday 7:30am to 3pm and is the ideal place for breakfast or lunch while on a budget in Manchester.

When it comes to Korean food, Seoul Kimchi is the place to be, there`s no other place in Manchester where you can indulge in a handmade beef gyoza for £3.50. The Korean cuisine is of fantastic quality, and you can expect the usuals to appear on the menu, such as japchae, tofy steak and kimchi. Prices are wallet friendly, with main meals ranging from £5.80 for the dak bulgogi to £6.50 for a seafood stew. You can comfortably feed a family of four here for under £50.

Located on Upper Brook Street, the Seoul Kimchi is open Monday through to Saturday 9am to 6pm.
