Today there is little heavy industry in the area. The main resource is tourism. This is not surprising as Hastings and the neighboring towns in Sussex and Kent are rich in history and fine buildings. The famous Channel Tunnel with its daily high speed trains to Europe is only 1/2 hour away, a little further on is the port of Dover where ferries still carry freight and passengers to France, Belgium and Holland, just as they have been doing for centuries.
Hastings is approximately 76 miles SE of London along the English Channel Coastline. Nearest major airport is London's Gatwick Airport to the NE on the A21 with further connections to the airport towards the west.
